Course Description

14883 - LEVEL 5 EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND EDUCATION (5M2009) ONE YEAR

This programme will enable students to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to work in Childcare and to work with children with additional needs as a Childcare/Special Needs Assistant in a creche, playgroup, after-school day care, or similar setting.   The focus of the programme is to develop the interpersonal, social and practical skills necessary to work in early years education.  On successful completion of the course learners may have the opportunity to progress to Early Childhood care and education Level 6 in the College or progress to third level.

Progression / Employment

Students will acquire the skills necessary to take up employment as a childcare or special needs assistant in a variety of childcare settings.  Students may be eligible to apply to to the Early Childhood Care and Ediucation Level 6 course in the College or third Level Colleges through the Higher Education Links Scheme.  Links to third level from Early Childhood Care and Education 5M2009

 

Entry Requirements

Ordinary Level Leaving Certificate/Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent. All applicants must have two written references and are subject to interview.  Applications are welcome from mature students with relevant experience.

Applicants will be asked for copy EU Passport or GNIB card or Irish Residence Permit or Labour Market Permission letter

For applicants whose first language is not English, evidence of English language proficiency may be required.  If appropriate, Whitehall College of Further Education will conduct an English language assessment.


 Garda Vetting Application Form will be completed at registration in September.

Parent/Guardian consent form (for students who are under 18) will be completed at registration in September.
